The Columbus Municipal School District adopted the CHART policy during the board’s March 1st board meeting. The district, located in Lowndes County (P3) is the 11th district to adopt the abstinence-plus policy. The community support for the policy was spearheaded by one of the district nurses, who’s been a strong advocate for CHART ever since the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Summit held back in December. The board also heard from a community sex education task force, which overwhelmingly recommended the CHART policy.
As we’ve mentioned in other posts, funding for Priority 2 and 3 districts is available on a first come, first served basis. By adopting the policy early, it’s a safe bet that funding will be available for the Columbus School District to fully-implement the CHART policy at no cost.
