The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), through the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, has established a list of exemplar texts for grades 7-12 based on feedback from teachers in Mississippi.  The list consists of literary and informational texts that show the appropriate text complexity for students by grade level.  Please note the following: This working document is NOT an exhaustive list. The list is NOT a required reading list. The MDE is NOT recommending or suggesting that the exemplars be used for students. The purpose of the list is to provide guidance for instructional planning on the appropriate text complexity for each grade level. This document is online at


  • The Mississippi Educational Computing Association would like to invite educators in all curriculum areas to attend the 2014 Annual MECA Conference on February 3 – 5, 2014 at the Jackson Convention Complex. This conference provides professional development for Mississippi teachers and administrators while offering the opportunity to earn CEUs and SEMIs for session attendance. Numerous concurrent and hands-on sessions provide training for practical classroom application of technology in instruction.
