Durant School District Adopts CHART!

Along with Quitman County, the Durant School Board also adopted the CHART policy last night (4/10). Durant is the first of the two districts in Holmes County (P1) to adopt the policy. This is also the 15th CHART school district!

The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) has reached out to all Priority 1 school districts to provide information about the funding and implementation of CHART. P1 districts have 30 days to adopt the policy and sign a memorandum of understanding with MSDH. After that deadline, funding for CHART implementation will be available for all school districts on a first come-first served basis, depending on when school boards adopt the policy.

More districts to come.

Quitman County School District Adopts CHART!

The Quitman County School Board adopted the CHART policy during their April meeting last night (4/10). The district is the 8th Priority 1 district, and 14th district overall, to adopt the abstinence-plus policy.

With MDE’s recent decision to add two of our recommended curricula to their list of approved resources, we should see more districts move closer to adoption in the coming days. As always, we’ll keep you posted on our progress.

CHART Update: Finally, We Made the List!

At long last, we’re happy to announce some exciting news about the curriculum review process! Last week, MDE added two of our recommended curricula to their approved list. The two curricula, Draw the Line/Respect the Line (middle school) and Reducing the Risk (high school), are now available to districts that adopt the CHART policy. As we reported a few weeks ago, these two curricula made the minimum approval score, but weren’t added to the list because finalized copies of the curricula with corrections weren’t submitted. After meeting with the Deputy Superintendent of Education, the vendor for these two curricula was allowed to submit the copies for immediate review.

In addition to these options, other CHART-recommended curricula were submitted for MDE’s 4th round of reviews by the March 30th deadline. We will let you know if any of those curricula are added to the approved list. In the meantime, you can learn more about the approved curricula by visiting the CHART page on the MSF Website.

Leflore County School District Adopts CHART!

We're adding to the list of CHART school districts for the second consecutive day!  The Leflore County School Board adopted the policy last night (3/22) by a unanimous vote.  The district is the 13th in the state to adopt the abstinence-plus policy, and the first of the two districts in the county.  Leflore County is one of seven P1 counties that meet all five of the sexual health indicators.

A few other districts may have voted on the policy this week, and they will be contacted today.  We will post all new adoption updates here on the website and on our Facebook page.

Mound Bayou School District Adopts CHART!

The Mound Bayou School District became the 12th school district to adopt the CHART policy!  The school board voted unanimously to adopt the abstience-plus sex education policy during their March 21st board meeting.  Mound Bayou is now the first CHART district in Bolivar County (P1), which was recently added to our Priority 1 list.  North Bolivar, Cleveland, and West Bolivar are also expected to vote on the policy this month.

Other districts are expected to be added to our list in the coming weeks, especially since most districts only have 3 board meetings left before the June 30th deadline for adopting a sex education policy.  Continue following us on the website or Facebook for additional updates.
