Explanation of the Bill


Senate Bill 2751 would prohibit any law, ordinance, or regulation from interfering with school districts’ use of sixteenth section lands for the construction and operation of educational or extracurricular facilities. 

Sixteenth section lands are “school trust lands,” meaning that revenue generated from the land is used to finance public schools. Local school boards serve as the trustees of the lands and are in charge of its day-to-day operations.
