Legislative Updates – Week of February 9, 2026
The sixth week of the legislative session brought a pause in committee activity but a significant amount of floor action. Thursday, February 12, marked the deadline for original floor action on general bills in their original chamber. Any bills that were not taken up on the floor by that deadline are no longer moving forward.
Senate Actions
Several of the notable bills passed by the Senate this week include:
- SB 2294, the Future Innovators Act
- SB 2487 (committee substitute; amended), Expansion of Literacy Intervention to Grades 4-8
- SB 2419, the Employee Childcare Tuition Assistance Partnership Program
House Actions
Several of the notable bills passed by the House this week include:
- HB 17, Mississippi Childcare Teacher Shortage Taskforce
- HB 1034, the Future Innovators Act
- HB 1310 (amended), the Mississippi Open to Religion Act
- HB 1234 (committee substitute; amended), the School Accountability Dashboard Act
The House did not bring up the following bills, causing them to die on the calendar:
- HB 1292 (committee substitute), Required Elected Local School Boards
- HB 1606 (committee substitute), the Excellence for All Pilot Program Act
