Explanation of the Bill

Section 37-153-7 establishes the Mississippi Office of Workforce Development (Accelerate MS) and the accompanying advisory board, the Mississippi State Workforce Investment Board. Additionally, the section defines the board and the office, reporting requirements, and the operational powers of the organization.

Senate Bill 2419 adds to the responsibilities of Accelerate MS to include the implementation of an employee childcare tuition assistance partnership program. The program would create a cost-sharing, tri-share program in Mississippi to help families afford childcare by splitting the cost between families, the state, and employers.

If enacted, Senate Bill 2419 could reduce child care costs for participating families and encourage employer involvement in addressing workforce-related child care challenges. At the same time, the bill leaves key implementation details unspecified, including eligibility criteria, funding levels, program scale, evaluation measures, and coordination with other state agencies involved in child care policy.
