Keeping the Promise
In 2015, Mississippi First published two policy briefs in the Keeping the Promise series. These briefs provided recommendations to improve the law and provided insight into how Mississippi could increase independent charter schools.

Growing Mississippi’s Independent Charter Schools
This brief detailed examined how to increase approvals of independent charter schools. The brief highlights the barriers to starting independent charter schools in Mississippi and provides detailed recommendations for supporting applicants of independent charter schools.

Strengthening the Mississippi Charter School Act of 2013
In this brief, we compare the Mississippi Charter Schools Act of 2013 to the recommendations made by Mississippi First and the Mississippi Coalition for Public Charter Schools (MCPCS). To that end, the purpose of this brief is not to explain the law but rather to assess whether the law meets the standards set by MSF and the MCPCS. We also make further recommendations about how to strengthen the law.
