HB 1522 died in committee on March 4.
Explanation of the Bill
HB 1522 would authorize school districts to sell district-issued electronic equipment to graduating seniors at the residual value of the equipment.
Under current law, local school boards are allowed to adopt policies allowing the district to sell district-issued electronic devices to graduating seniors, but they are required to charge $1.00 per device to students who can verify acceptance to a college or university and $75.00 per device to students who cannot verify acceptance to a college or university. HB 1522 would allow districts to sell these devices to all students at the residual value of the devices.
This act would take effect on July 1, 2025.
