Explanation of the Bill

Senate Bill 2177 would make a technical modification to the allowable uses of certain vocational education funds.

Currently, local districts may apply to receive state funds from the Mississippi Department of Education for the purpose of funding extended contracts for vocational education services. Payments can be used to fund these vocational education services between academic years.

SB 2177 would modify the current law so that schools on a year-round calendar could use such payments to fund vocational education services between academic quarters.

This act would take effect on July 1.
